OLLE BAERTLING (Swedish / 1911-1981)

Olle Baertling was born in Halmstad, Sweden. He was a pupil of André Lhote and Fernand Léger, and artistic ally of Auguste Herbin. Olle Baertling is regarded as the most important modern Swedish artist, who invented a whole new visual grammar to express what he called "a hymn of praise to creation". There was a major Baertling retrospective in Stockholm in the year of his death. His artistic legacy is now cared for by the Baertling Foundation, Stockholm.
