THEOPHILE-ALEXANDRE DE BOCK (Dutch / 1851-1904)

Théophile Émile Achille de Bock was born in the Hague. He studied under Borselen and Weissenbruch, and then worked directly alongside the French painters of the Barbizon School, whose work was to profoundly influence all of the Hague School painters. Among his contemporaries, Théophile de Bock was particularly influenced by Jacob Maris. He wrote that, "My idea of life is to reproduce and interpret all that i see and feel to be beautiful around me."
