FRANCOISE GILOT (French /
1921-)
Françoise Gilot was already a successful artist in her own right when she became the lover and companion of Picasso, a relationship recorded in her book Life with Picasso. Our prints by Françoise Gilot are mostly original lithographs produced during this formative period, and show the influence of both Picasso and Matisse; we also have some later silkscreens. Françoise Gilot has also published Artist’s Journey (1989) and Matisse & Picasso: A Friendship in Art (1990). See: Yoatum, Stone Echoes: Original Prints by Françoise Gilot, a Catalogue Raisonné, 1996; Yoatum, Françoise Gilot: Monograph 1940-2000, 2000. After her relationship with Picasso, Gilot married first the painter Luc Simon and finally the scientist Jonas Salk.
