GEORGES JULES VICTOR CLAIRIN (French / 1843-1919)

Georges Jules Victor Clairin was born in Paris. He studied under Pils and Picot at the École des Beaux-Arts, and also under Henri Regnault, who became a close friend. Clairin painted portraits, landscapes, and genre scenes, and was also known as an Orientalist, spending considerable periods in Morocco, Algeria, and Egypt. Victor Clairin was close to the actress Sarah Bernhardt, often staying with her in Brittany, and painting her many times.
