LODEWYK APOL –
Winter, 1899
Etching
Sheet size: 225x300 mm
Image size: 145x210 mm
Edition: Size of edition unknown – Unsigned
Original etching by Philip Zilcken (Dutch, 1857-1930) after a painting by Lodewyk Apol. Printed chine collé, on thin china paper fixed onto a stout wove backing sheet, by Amst. Boek- en Steendrukkerij. This is one of 24 etchings by Zilcken (a significant artist in his own right) after the masters of the Hague School, tipped into copies of Dutch Painters of the Nineteenth Century by Max Rooses. There are no typeset credits below the etching, so that the fact that this is an etching by Zilcken after Apol, rather than an original etching by Apol, is not apparent from the etching itself. Condition: Fine.
