This striking engraving by Julien Deturck, signed in the plate lower left, depicts a model dressed by the archaeologist Léon Heuzey (the discoverer of Delphi) standing before a Roman battle scene. It is an interesting collaboration between academic history painting and practical archaeology, engraved by Deturck to illustrate an essay on the Roman toga in the Revue de l'art ancien et moderne. The engraving was printed by Porcabeuf on wove paper. Condition: Excellent.
