Summer evening - the bathers. An original etching by Paul Huet, signed and dated 1867 in the plate top right. The etching was reprinted by Chardon Wittmann on cream wove paper for the Revue de l'art ancien et moderne in 1911. This etching by Huet is after his own painting of the same name exhibited in the Salon of 1866. This immediate pre-Impressionist work anticipates much of the Impressionist style in its fresh, loose approach, and its fascination with the play of light and shade. The bathers even seem to anticipate Cézanne's. This is one of the most important etchings of the Barbizon School. Condition: Excellent.
