The peacock. An original lithograph by Adolphe Gumery, initialled in the stone. Printed by Tailliardat on china paper, pasted on to a wove backing sheet, on which the title, artist, printer and publisher are credited; the lithograph is described as a "panneau décoratif", a decorative panel, so perhaps it was a study for or record of some large decorative scheme. There is a line near the top leading from the left edge of the image towards the middle, where the thin china paper must have slightly creased when applied to the backing sheet, always a risk with this chine collé method; it is not offensive and does not seriously detract from the beauty of the print. Nevertheless we have discounted the price. Condition: Excellent, see description.
