NORBERT GOENEUTTE – Henri Guérard consultant un carton d'estampes (Le dos d'un artiste), 1876
Sheet size: 280 x 190 mm
Image size: 160 x 110 mm
Edition: Size of edition unknown; extremely scarce – Signed in plate
Original Impressionist etching by Norbert Goeneutte - a stunning image of a Bohemian artist in his studio. The model is Goeneutte's friend and fellow-Impressionist, Henri Guérard, in his studio at 4, Avenue Frochot. Signed N. Goeneutte in the plate. Published by Paris à l'eau-forte, of which Guérard was at this time the art editor, under the title Le dos d'un artiste. Printed by Delâtre on laid paper. The extreme edges of the sheet have darkened slightly, where they were not covered by the etching's tissue guard. Some technical aspect of the printing process has left a vertical indentation, and two holes, towards the righthand margin of the sheet; this is 40mm from the edge of the image, so is not of any consequence. This is the first state of this etching; Goeneutte later worked on the plate with a roulette. Ref: Duvivier 82, 1/2. Condition: Excellent, see description.
