Sheet size: 310 x 235 mm
Image size: 220 x 220 mm
Edition: Size of edition unknown, scarce – Signed in plate
Original woodcut by Wassily Kandinsky, executed in 1913 for Klänge. Signed in the block with the artist's monogram. Printed on wove paper and published by San Lazzaro in the art revue XXe Siècle. XXe Siècle published this work twice - once in issue 3 in 1938 and once in issue 13 of the Nouvelle Série in 1959, in both cases printing from the original block. We have no way of knowing from which of these sources our print derives, but think it more likely that it comes from the 1959 printing. Both issue 3 of the pre-war Première Série and issue 13 of the Nouvelle Série are very scarce. Klänge (Sounds) was first published in 1913 in an edition of 345 copies. Ref: Roethel 105. Condition: Excellent.
