VALERIO ADAMI (Italian / 1935-)

One of the most important Italian 20th-century artists, Valerio Adami was born in Bologna, and studied at the Accademia di Brera in Milan, in the studio of Achille Funi. Adami soon established an international reputation. Early in his career Valerio Adami was influenced by Wifredo Lam, and elements of Surrealism remain in his work, transmuted into a Pop Art aesthetic. Among his most important exhibitions are a 1985 retrospective in the Pompidou Centre, Paris, and the Palazzo Reale in Milan, with a substantial catalogue by Ashton, Lyotard and Pacquement.
