PIERRE-NOLASQUE BERGERET (French /
1772-1863)
The painter, etcher, and lithographer Pierre-Nolasque Bergeret was born in Bordeaux. He was pupil of both Vincent and David, and exhibited regularly at the Salon de Paris from 1806 to 1853. Our three original etchings by Bergeret were published by the revue L'Artiste in the year after his death. One of them, Filippo Lippi esclave à Alger, executed in 1838, relates closely to a painting of 1819; there is a pen and ink drawing of the same subject in the Peabody Art Collection, Maryland.
