MAX UNOLD (German / 1885-1964)

The Expressionist painter and printmaker Max Unold was born in Memmingen, and died in Munich. He studied under Hugo von Habermann at the Munich Academy. In 1911, 1912 and 1913 he travelled to Provence, meeting Cézanne and other French artists. In 1913 Max Unold was a founder member of the New Munich Secession, of which he was President when it was dissolved by the Nazis in 1936.
