MATTHIJS MARIS (Dutch /
1839-1917)
Matthijs Maris (sometimes called Thijs Maris) was the middle one of three remarkable artistic brothers: Jacob, Matthijs, and Willem. All three were important figures in the Hague School, the Dutch artistic movement that bridged the gap between the Barbizon School and the Impressionists. He was born in La Haye, and died in London.
