JEAN DUBUFFET (French /
1901-1985)
Born in Le Havre into a prosperous family, Jean Dubuffet intially trained as an artist, associating with both Raoul Dufy and André Masson, before giving up art for eight years and entering the wine trade. Once Dubuffet returned to painting, he revealed himself as one of the twentieth centuries most original and influential artists. Jean Dubuffet was particularly enthused by lithography, and had a lithographic press installed in his studio.
