HENRY MOORE (English /
1898-1986)
Henry Spencer Moore was born in Castleford, West Yorkshire. After serving in the trenches in WWI (he was gassed at the Battle of Cambrai), Moore studied sculpture at Leeds College of Art and Design, where he met fellow-student Barbara Hepworth. Moore and Hepworth, close friends and rivals, were to become the two outstanding British sculptors of their generation. Moore also made a substantial contribution to graphic art; the images in his prints frequently link directly to his sculptures.
