FRANZ EDMUND WEIROTTER (Austrian /
1733-1771)
The Austrian Romantic painter and etcher Franz Edmund Weirotter was born in Innsbruck in 1773. After initial studies in Innsbruck and Mayence, Weirotter went to Paris to study under J. G. Wille. In 1767 Franz Edmund Weirotter was appointed Professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna. Franz Weirotter's 186 etchings are described in the catalogue raisonné by Dr Thilo Winterberg, Franz Edmund Weirotter, 1733-1771 Das graphische Werk (1998). There was an exhibition of Weirotter's etchings and drawings at the Palatine Gallery in Heidelberg in 1998 to mark the publication of this work.
