FRANCISCO BORES (Spanish /
1898-1972)
Francisco Borès Lopez, usually known simply as Borès, was one of the greatest Spanish artists of the twentieth century. Francisco Borès was born in Madrid, and studied art there at the Cecilia Pla Academy. Borès moved to Paris in 1925, and soon became part of the Surrealist group. The art of Francisco Borès was influenced by Surrealism and Cubism, notably by his fellow Spanish painter Juan Gris, but took its own course between the figurative and the abstract.
