CARL THIEMANN (Czech / 1881-1966)

The woodcut artist Carl Theodor Thiemann (sometimes known as Karl Thiemann) was born in Karlovy Vary (Karlsbad). Carl Thiemann studied at the Prague Academy, and also under Franz Thiele. He died in Deutenhofen in Bavaria. From student days, Carl Thiemann was a close friend and colleague of Walter Klemm. There is a critical study and catalogue raisonné by Klaus von Merx, Carl Thiemann 1881-1966, Meister des Farbholzschnitts.
