AUGUSTE BROUET (French /
1872-1941)
Auguste Brouet was born in Paris to a poor family, and struggled to become an artist. He was taught etching by Auguste Delâtre. Among his first etchings were copies of works by Rembrandt, and Auguste Brouet's mature style has often been compared to Rembrandt in his handling of light and shade. Brouet later taught etching at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris. There is a catalogue raisonné by Jeffroy, Auguste Brouet: catalogue de son oeuvre gravé.
