ARNOLD BOCKLIN (Swiss / 1827-1901)

The Swiss Symbolist painter Arnold Böcklin was born in Basle. He studied under Johann Wilhelm Schirmer in Düsseldorf. Böcklin;s obsession with classical mythology exercised a strong influence of Franz von Stuck. From 1874 Böcklin lived in a villa near Fiesole, where he died. His sons Arnold, Hans, Carlo, and Felix all became painters,.
