ANTON MAUVE (Dutch / 1838-1888)

Anton Mauve was born in Zaandam. He was a pupil of Van Os. He was a major figure in the Hague School, the Dutch equivalent of the Barbizon School in France. Through his marriage to Vincent's cousin Jet Carbentus, Mauve was related to Vincent van Gogh, whom he taught, and infused with a love of the art of Millet.
