ANTONIO SAURA (Spanish / 1930-1998)

Antonio Saura was born in Huesca, Spain. He suffered tuberculosis as a child, and like many sick children learned to live inside his own imagination. He was self-taught as an artist. Initially part of the Surrealist group, he was closely associated with Eduardo Chillida and Antoni Tŕpies, with both of whom he shared exhibitions. There was a retrospective of the art of Antonio Saura at the Museo d'Arte Moderna, Lugano, in 1994.
